2019 is the year of the Art Biennale.
The event, dedicated to contemporary art, will open on May 11th with the great exhibitions at the Biennale Gardens and in the Corderie dell’Arsenale, and with many Side Events (Eventi Collaterali) in the historical center of Venice.
“May You Live in Interesting Times” is the title of the Art Biennale, but don’t be fooled, because the expression is a fake Chinese anthem, created in the western world as a fake news in the 19th century. And the idea of fake and of falseness is the central theme of this event: the newly appointed director of the Biennale, Ralph Rugoff from London’s Hayward Gallery, has asked the artists to reflect on it for their works for the Biennale. The challenge is very modern and involves both the author and the viewer of the works. With these premises, the 58th International Art Exhibition will most likely be one of the most interesting of the past years.
The Side Events will be very interesting too, given their glamorous international atmosphere. They will take place in palaces of the center which are usually closed to the public, where there will be exhibitions and entertainment. Venice will become the world capital of contemporary art.
You have time until November 24th to enjoy the art and atmosphere of the Biennale 2019, but you better hurry, because there will be many people during the whole period – lovers and experts of contemporary art will come to Venice from all over the world.
